To create this effect, I have partly used the photoshop 'actions' window. I am very happy with the effect it has given and I think it looks incredibly realistic. The crucial stage is adding the noise to give the image a worn and retro look. Strips of distorted layers are then placed alongside the main image as layer masks, I have erased the sections of the effect which I do not need by using the eraser tool.
Adding the time code is another important component of the effect. This makes it clear that the image is in VHS style. The font I used was called 'VCR MONO' from DaFont. Once downloaded, I then added the 'styles' and merge the layers together.
Here is the first finished panel. I prefer this effect to my previous theme, especially as it fits the artists genre, costume etc. I would likely use this as a inside panel, although I do think it could be used as a front cover if needed.
