In todays lesson we had the chance to speak to some professionals in the media industry. Working for the BBC, a documentary team explained to us there jobs and gave us tips on when filming/constructing our video. They told us the importance of adding variety to our shots and keeping them relatively short as our task of a music video is only around 3 minutes long. We got the chance to look at the equipment used by professionals, including the sound boom and Sony FS7 camera. Surprisingly, there were many similarities between our task and what they do everyday, meaning the tips and advice we received is particularly relevant for when we film and edit the videos.
The main advice we gained was-
- Keep shots short, edited to the beat
- Use a variety of shots to engage our audiences
- Make sure the footage captured/chosen is always in focus
- Use cutaways to add variety- e.g the artist not lip syncing and just looking around
Here is the image of the camera we got to hold and look at. It is higher quality than the ones we used but the lenses and simple functions are relatively similar to the Canon DSLR we used ourselves.
