I practised editing a disc on Photoshop to see if we idea was possible. On my digipak plan, I would like to manipulate the disc image with cracks and scratches etc. When I create my final product, I will edit with much more precision as I loosely edited this image to have an idea of the difficulty of editing. The image was taken from a google search and the images were either png images or edited using a magic eraser tool and magnetic lasso tool. On my final product, I will use my own images and therefore I think there may be a slightly easier and more effective way to capture my desire image.
Firstly, I could break the disc myself. This eliminates any amateur looking editing as the shine on the disc and inconsistency of colour can make it almost impossible to edit seamlessly. Taking the photo may be quite difficult, as the disc may reflect the image of the camera or myself. I will test this and see how clear the image appears-
Here are some test shots-
Alternatively, I think that it may work even better using a printer scanner. By using a printer scanner, I or the camera should not be reflected in the image. In addition, the image would be perfectly flat and possibly better resolution when editing. The main reason for this approach would be that I could adjust the broken pieces of the disc on a flat surface and not have to worry about taking a perfectly central image as I can use the proportions on the printer.

It is important for me to practice to make my cover as innovative and creative as possible. Using these ideas and seeing if they are possible improve my chances of a successful and well edited cover/poster. It is a huge advantage if the image can be as unique as possible as there are so many digipaks it can be hard to avoid copying or duplicating other artists covers. Instead, I need to take inspiration and put my own twist on all the features I choose to include.
